Question and objective

Which machine does a signal belong to, and which unit should be evaluated later? Assigning data when connecting it makes it easier to find and prevents data from different stations from being mixed unintentionally.

Assets represent real equipment and its structure. Technical resources are linked to this context. The adapter establishes the connection; the asset describes the operational assignment. Manufacturing Insights adds machine-specific data and view configurations.

Best practices for the initial assignment

1. Use recognizable equipment names from production.
2. Clarify whether the source represents an individual station or an entire line.
3. Retain stable machine identifiers in each event when a stream contains multiple units.
4. Check a known event against its physical source.

Example: A broker topic contains values from several presses. Assigning the adapter to an area does not replace the machine identifier field that distinguishes individual events.

What to consider

An organizational link does not automatically filter every dataset or chart to the intended asset. Check the data filter in each analysis as well. Likewise, the sum of station quantities is not necessarily the line's output.

Organizing assets covers ongoing structure, ownership, and maintenance. This keeps technical connectivity and operational management clearly separated.
